Australia has demolished the Kiwis at the Adelaide Oval to complete a 2-nil victory of the series. The Aussies ran rampant in the New Zealand second innings to bowl them out for 203 and win by an innings 62 runs.
New Zealand came into the 4th day at 0 for 35, with How and Redmond taking to the Aussie attack late on day four, and looked set to score a decent second innings total. Things fell apart almost instantly on the 4th day when Brett Lee dismissed Redmond for 18, just two balls in. Not long after Lee struck again taking the wickets Ryder, Taylor and How in a six over period to have New Zealand in reeling at 4 for 63. The latter was made memorable by an amazing catch from the Australian captain Ricky Ponting that saw him dive full length to his right to take a one hander.
It was all down hill from there for the Kiwis with wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum the only one showing any real resistance. Mitchell Johnson and off spinner Nathan Hauritz chipped in taking two wickets each before O’Brian stuck around to helped McCullum to his fifty. O’Brian was then dismissed for a 38th ball duck by Brett Lee to give the quick a five wicket hall. McCullum powered to 84 which included 14 fours and 2 sixes but ran out of partners when Johnson bowled Martin for a duck.
Brad Haddin was named Man of the Match for his maiden test century, which saw him score 169, while Michael Clarke was named Man of the Series for his 110 and 98 at the Gabba.
