Australia have won the third test match with just 10 balls to spare on the final day at the SCG. In a series which saw an amazing number of twists and turns, it was no surprise that the third test would come down to the last few overs. The Aussies looked home when Siddle took the wicket of Paul Harris just before tea, but a fighting partnership from Dale Steyn and Makaya Ntini pushed the Proteas closer and closer to a draw.
When Steyn was out LBW to McDonald, everyone’s eyes turned to the dressing room to see if the South African captain Graeme Smith would come out to bat with a broken hand. The roar of the crowd congradulating the wicket quickly turned into a standing ovation and appreciation as the courages skipper emerged from the dressing room and made his way to the middle. Both he and Ntini managed to survive until the second last over before Smith was bowled by Mitchell Johnson.
Fast bowler Peter Siddle was named Man of the Match for his 8 wickets for the match, including 5 for 59 in the first innings, while Graeme Smith was named Man of the Series, averaging 80 with the bat.
